TV-10’s new streaming app launched on Monday, Oct. 22.

UW-Eau Claire’s TV-10 has announced the launch of its brand-new movie streaming service, mytv10, on the TV-10 Facebook page.

Starting on Monday, this new streaming service and mobile device application has been made available to anyone connected to UW-Eau Claire’s WiFi or wired ethernet. All students have to do is visit mytv10.uwec.edu on a computer, or download the Swank Media Player app onto their mobile device, and then search mytv10.uwec.edu in their browser. Once a movie is selected, it will automatically open within the app.

According to Matt Peterson, UW-Eau Claire’s digital and broadcast programs manager and TV-10 advisor, TV-10 has offered a selection of movies on channel 10 for years. The rights to these movies have always been acquired through Swank Motion Pictures, who offered this new streaming portal option to TV-10 and Housing and Residence Life last year, Peterson said.

“We hope the students find the service easily accessible and enjoy the content available,” Peterson said. “We hope (Resident Assistants) find it as a useful tool in planning programs and engaging with students.”

TV-10’s new streaming services will come at no additional cost, as Housing — which TV-10 is a part of — has been “long partnered” with Swank Motion Pictures to provide movies for channel 10. According to Peterson, this application simply provides students with a new way to access these movies.

UW-Eau Claire is currently the only university in Wisconsin to offer this service, Peterson said; though other universities, like Clemson and Indiana University, offer similar services.

Peterson said TV-10 is looking to expand mytv10’s selection by eventually including TV shows, and by adding new movies at the beginning of each month. Other updates are also in the works:

“TV-10 is always looking for recommendations of movies to add,” Peterson said. “The site’s developers are working on making it possible for people using the service on mobile devices to not have to leave the browser and view the movies in the Swank app. Movies will be able to be viewed right in the mobile browser.”

Peterson said any technical issues with mytv10 can be addressed at [email protected].
