Chippewa River nears flood stage

The Chippewa River was at a 769.67-foot elevation at 2:15 p.m. Friday, which is three feet below the flood stage of 773 feet.

The river was expected to crest at an elevation of 770.5 feet over the weekend and was not expected to cause major flooding.

The Chippewa River Trail currently is closed behind the Haas Fine Arts Center, between Seventh Avenue and the Hobbs Boat landing and under the Lake Street bridge.

People near the Chippewa River should use caution due to the increased current and depth of the water that may obscure obstructions and create unstable banks.
