At the Information Technology Commission’s first-ever roundtable discussion Wednesday, students were invited to share their ideas and ask questions concerning technology with the ITC, but the turnout proved that many students just stayed home.
“We weren’t expecting too large a turnout,” said senior Andy Brehm, director of the ITC, said. “I guess the fact that no one’s here means everyone’s happy.”
Although the Student Global Server had briefly crashed Wednesday morning, students were not upset enough to voice their opinions on problems with the university’s technology support.
Senior ITC member Kerry Tobin also was present to answer student questions.
Despite the lack of student input, several topics were discussed including a computer sale which will take place sometime in the beginning of thefall 2002 semester.
Other topics included the Blugold system, which is working efficiently, and upgrades of programs in some computer labs are being arranged. Also, the increase in students using Webmail vs. Eudora to check their e-mail was brought up.
Problems with junk e-mail were also solved with a simple suggestion. The commission suggested giving a fake e-mail address, such as [email protected], when asked to give addresses on certain sites.
The CNS Help Desk and ITC are both available to help with computer problems around campus.
