The news column “COVID on campus” posts relevant COVID-19 news every week for UWEC students.

As of Sept. 22, the number of current positive cases of COVID-19 on campus rests at five cases, with the cumulative amount of positive tests resting at 233.

The UW-Eau Claire COVID-19 Dashboard also reports there are 80 students in quarantine and 20 in isolation.

Since the last COVID On Campus issue, the number of positive tests have increased by 20 cases. On the Rice Lake campus there are two positive cases, whereas the Marshfield campus remains at zero positive cases.

In addition to the UW-Eau Claire dashboard, Eau Claire County has also set up the Eau Claire County COVID-19 Information Hub to keep residents updated. The information in this article is current as of 10:44 a.m. this morning, Sept. 22.

There are currently 1,617 positive cases in Eau Claire and six recorded deaths due to COVID-19.

The site also lists pressing updates for Eau Claire County residents, including state orders from Gov. Tony Evers. The orders concern wearing masks when indoors and around others, and the declaration of a public health emergency, also known as Executive Order 90 and Executive Order 1.

Below this pinned news is a link to the updated Eau Claire County COVID-19 Prevention and Control Order, which is currently set to be in place from Sept. 18 to Oct. 1.

Residents of Eau Claire County can check if there are potential risks of COVID-19 at establishments they visit within the Exposures and Public Health Investigations tab of the same website.

Currently, the only establishment listed for potential exposure is Brothers Bar & Grill from 12 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13.

The page also has a warning at the bottom concerning phone scammers acting as contact tracers.

“Contact tracers will never ask for your social security number or financial information,” the warning says. “Contact tracers will reach out by phone, text or email; ask how you are feeling; ask for general information; provide information on how long you need to stay home and monitor symptoms.”

For those curious about the state of other UW System schools, there is a public dashboard which links to all of the UW System schools’ current dashboards.
