There won’t be a new student center constructed anytime soon on the Eau Claire campus, and senior Adrian Klenz will take over as Student Senate president, according to four-day vote totals posted Thursday night.
Klenz and his running mate, sophomore Kate Demerse, received 1,043 votes to junior Saskia Harak and junior Kevin Funk’s 594.
Write-in candidates senior Ben Hack and sophomore Aaron Olson received 87 votes.
“I’m very honored,” Klenz said. “Students obviously got involved. It was a fantastic turnout.”
The new student center referendum failed decidedly, with 1,435 students opposing its passage.
The other referendum on the ballot, regarding the maintenance of Eau Claire’s membership in student lobbying group United Council, passed 1,282 to 486.
A total of 1,884 students voted in the election.
