Gymnastics coach Jean DeLisle only had one word to describe Friday’s meet at UW-Stout: “Terrible.”
“It wasn’t a good meet,” she said. “I don’t know how to make it sound better that that, because it truly wasn’t.”
The UW-Eau Claire gymnastics team took fourth out of four, scoring 172.875 points.
UW-Stout won the meet with 178.825 points, while Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) took second with 174.1 points. Hamline (Minn.) took third with 172.950 points.
The Blugolds started on beam, which DeLisle said is the most difficult place to begin.
“Your nerves don’t have time to calm down or settle, but that’s not an excuse for our performance, I don’t think,” she said.
Junior Anna Sutherland said she thinks the talent is there and they will do better next time.
“It wasn’t that we don’t have the skills. It’s a matter of landing on our feet,” she said. “We’re definitely prepared to get in the gym and get going and do better.”
The team’s next meet is set for Thursday in St. Peter, Minn., against Gustavus.
