Michelle Burns is a junior forward on the women’s basketball team. She has been named the WIAC athlete of the week four times this season.
Major: Elementary education
Favorite basketball player: Michael Jordan. He’s just the (best) basketball player of all-time
Favorite sports movie: “Remember the Titans”
Music you listen to before a game: Personally, I listen to country because that’s what I always listen to. Inside the locker room, we’re always listening to rock and hip-hop before the games.
Most memorable moment as a UWEC athlete: This year against UW-Whitewater, I had a career-high 29 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
Biggest rival and why: (UW)-Stout because we’re so close, we always have close games, we always have big crowds. Everyone brings their ‘A’ game. A lot of (the players) know each other, so it makes it more fun to play.
Favorite WIAC school to travel to: Stout. They draw big crowds . and it’s a good game every time we play. It’s easy for our fans to travel so that gives it more of a home game feel.
Most embarrassing moment in sports: My sophomore year in high school, I was in the Thanksgiving Showcase here at Eau Claire. I completely (air-balled) a free throw. I missed it wide right.
If you could play another sport here at UWEC, what would it be: I almost played volleyball here. I played volleyball in high school and I miss it a lot, but I just decided to focus on basketball.
Role basketball played in coming to Eau Claire: I wanted to come to Eau Claire so my family could come to every game. Staying close to home was important to me. Also, I came because of the strong tradition the women’s basketball team held.
Plans of playing basketball after college: I have gotten a couple invites to go overseas to Europe for a two-week tour.
Inside the Locker Room appears every Thursday in The Spectator.
