    Men golfers grab fourth

Prior to the men’s golf team’s tournament last weekend, the Blugolds did not finish below second place in any meet.

The ‘Golds fortune changed slightly as the team traveled to Minnesota last weekend to participate in the Twin Cities Classic. The ‘Golds placed fourth overall with 61 over par against 20 competing colleges.

“Going into the tournament I was very confident with my ability and the team’s,” sophomore Derek Pirkl said. “Coming out of the tournament I still show no concern.”

The ‘Golds struggled with their short game, which resulted in an abundance of 3-putts.

“The main problem was my short game; our whole team struggled with it,” freshman Michael Greer said. “We have two weeks of practice before our next tourney, and we know what we need to work on, so we will be ready to go.”

The team strives at every practice and game to meet the goals and to make new ones, Pirkl said.

“Our team has high goals so when we don’t achieve them it hurts,” freshman Tyler Leis said. “But we will keep striding to become better, and we will come back.”

Golfers are notorious for being perfectionists when it comes to their golf game, whether it’s getting their swing technique down to their tee placement in the tee box, Greer said.

“We look strong this year, and every one of my players has a lot of great talent,” coach John Rawdon said. “But being a good player and winning is a completely different thing.”
