The UW-Eau Claire women’s golf team ended their season this past Sunday at the WIAC Championship held at the Reedsburg Country Club.

The Blugolds finished in seventh place after getting as high as sixth throughout the three-day tournament. They finished with a total team score of 1,065 with their best outing being on Sunday when they recorded a score of 353, according to Blugold Athletics.

“You know you wanna play well, but you also need to enjoy the conference tournament,” Coach Cade Stackpool said. “It’s a really cool experience.”

Cadie Ash, fourth-year student, reached as high as 19th place for the Blugolds before eventually tying for 39th place with a score of 264. This was also the last meet for Ash, capping off her four-year career on the women’s golf team. 

“My career as a Blugold was a lot of fun,” Ash said. “I was a team player and I loved being a part of it.”

She was also named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team, an honor that she is quite familiar with. The award is voted upon by peers and goes to one member of each team in the conference. 

This is Ash’s third time being named to this team, and she said she is proud to be recognized. 

“Sportsmanship is one of the most important things when it comes to athletics,” Ash said. “It’s great to represent UW-Eau Claire and show that our team really values sportsmanship.”

The Blugolds stayed consistent in the final standings. Gillian Johnson and Bri Novak recorded the highest individual scores on the team, tying for 34th place with a score of 262.

Ash was behind them in 39th place with 264, followed by Elizabeth Hermann and Olivia McSorley tied for 46th with a final score of 272.

Keely Morehouse finished in 49th place with 273, Lydia Jensen finished in 50th with 274 and Lilly Kaminski rounded out the team, finishing in 52nd with a score of 275.

This marks the end of the fall schedule for the women’s golf team, but Stackpool is already looking towards improving during the offseason.

“We’re gonna get right back into getting into the weight room, getting stronger, getting faster, more athletic,” Stackpool said. “As soon as the snow eventually melts, we’ll be excited to get back onto the course.”

During the fall season, the team competed in five meets across Minnesota and Wisconsin. 

The Blugold’s best performance for the season was during the Gustavus Adolphus College meet where they finished ninth out of 16 teams, scoring 674 for the meet as a team. 

Ash will be the only team member not playing in the spring, bringing back almost a full roster of experienced golfers. With a lot of young talent, the team looks to continue progressing into the spring season.
