Katharine Thomas Hall is planning to take advantage of the warm weather when it hosts the 17th annual Putnam Love Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The 5-kilometer run goes down Putnam Drive and then back up it. The walk will be 2 miles long and will go along Putnam Trail to upper campus, down University Drive and then down the hill back to Putnam Hall.
This year more than just the Hall Council Executive Board has pitched into help. Wing representatives, resident assistants and residents also have put their heads together to make Saturday’s event.
“This year seems to have gone much more smoothly,” said junior Kate Feiertag, who is organizing the Putnam Love Run/Walk. “This is mostly due to the increase in volunteers and better publicity this year.”
Feiertag said she has overseen the making of this event since January.
There has been a lot of preparation for Saturday. Four committees are helping put the event together.
The publicity committee, headed by sophomore Susan Evans, has been putting up posters, table tents and chalking the campus sidewalks.
The prize committee, headed by sophomore Krisha Hamblin, has called local businesses to donate prizes. There will be prizes for first, second and third places for men and women. A prize also will be given to the person who raises the most money.
The registration committee, headed by freshman Amy Chabot, had a booth in Davies Center near Burger King last week and Monday and Tuesday of this week.
Registration for the run and walk starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday outside of Putnam Hall.
It costs $10 to register and an additional $7 for a Putnam Love Run/Walk T-shirt.
The day of the race committee, which is headed by junior Brianna Powers, will be setting up and getting things started Saturday morning. It also will make sure the trail markers are in place and all of the runners and walkers get enough water.
Everyone who enters the race is eligible for a raffle. Many prizes have been donated.
The run/walk benefits Feed My People, a nonprofit rehabilitative help center.
In addition to dispensing food supplies, it offers job counseling, budget guidance and other instructive services designed to assist clients in their quest to improving their lifestyle.
Feiertag said this would be a great end of the year wing event for resident assistants and their floors.
