Women’s soccer
The Blugolds captured their second straight WIAC title by defeating UW-River Falls 3-0 Saturday.
The ‘Golds are currently ranked sixth in Div. III and finished the conference season undefeated at 8-0.
The Falcons kept Eau Claire in check until the 33:46 mark when senior Maria Iaizzo scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season.
Sophomore Liz Kooistra added to the lead at the 72:51 and senior Emily Meisinger closed the door on a free kick to make the final score 3-0.
Sunday, the Blugolds matched the school record for wins in a season with 17 after defeating St. Thomas (Minn.) 3-0.
The team will host St. Scholastica (Minn.)
at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bollinger Fields.
Women’s volleyball
Eau Claire guaranteed at least a share of the 2006 WIAC title by sweeping UW-La Crosse 3-0 on Saturday.
The night before, senior Jodi Dunbar tied the school record for kills in a match with 29 as the Blugolds beat UW-Platteville 3-2.
Eau Claire took game one 30-26 and battled from behind to win the second game 32-30.
Platteville fought back and took games three and four, but the Blugolds sealed the match with a 15-6 win in the final game.
The ‘Golds are currently 7-1 in conference play.
The team will next head to the UW-River Falls Halloween Tournament Friday.
Swimming and diving
The Blugold men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams dropped the first dual meet of the season to Mankato (Minn.) Friday.
The men’s swimming and diving teams lost 145-90 while the women’s teams also fell 148.5-91.5.
The first conference dual meet of the season will take place at 5 p.m. on Friday against UW-Stevens Point at the McPhee Center swimming pool.
