    Aquatics improves at championships

    Swimming and diving coach Art Brandt was named Coach of the Year for the improvement that the UW-Eau Claire men’s and women’s teams displayed over the course of the season. That improvement was shown last weekend when the swimming and diving teams both recorded their best finish in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament to date.

    The women’s team finished the tournament with 788.5 points, which was good enough for third place. The Blugolds narrowly missed overtaking second-place UW-La Crosse, which finished with 792 points. Individually, however, the Blugolds boasted many strong finishes.

    “Richard Pein, the coach with (UW-La Crosse) and friend of mine, told me it would be back and forth the entire time,” Brandt said. “And it was definitely back and forth.”

    On the first day of competition sophomore Kirsten Lickel won the conference title in the 200-yard individual medley with a school-record time of two minutes and 8.53 seconds. Sophomore
