    Women take first

    The UW-Eau Claire men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams placed in the top three this weekend at the Titan Invitational, hosted by UW-Oshkosh.

    The women took first while the men grabbed third.

    The women’s team was led by freshman Emily Viau, who had a strong night, taking first in the 200-, 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle races.

    Sophomore Cori Severson added top finishes, with firsts in both the 50- and 100-yd freestyle races, and senior Liz VonFeldt took first in both the 200- and 400-yd individual medley races.

    The men’s team had strong times coming in from senior John Welch, who led the way, taking second in the 1650-yd freestyle, the 500-yard freestyle and 400-yd individual medley races.

    Other second-place finishers for the men’s team include senior Brian Bartlett and freshman Peter Shafe.
