Home Furniture driver fails to stop
At approximately 2:49 p.m. on Oct. 7, an officer was conducting stationary stop sign patrols at the intersection of West MacArthur Avenue and Stein Boulevard, which is controlled by a four-way stop sign. The officer observed a Home Furniture delivery truck travel through the stop sign at this intersection without stopping. The truck was traveling at an estimated speed of 30 mph on Stein Boulevard.
The officer activated their emergency lights and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The truck came to a stop within the Bollinger Field Lot. At the stop, the truck was identified as Home Furniture being the registered owner.
The officer made contact with the lone driver. The driver reported that he was on duty, the driver said that he was somewhat in a rush to deliver furniture and had overlooked the stop sign. The officer issued a traffic citation for failing to stop for a stop sign.
Active warrant apprehended
On Oct. 8, there was an officer conducting stationary patrol in the Haas Fine Arts Center loading dock while another officer was conducting a traffic stop on Water Street. The second officer ran the name of the offender, and the Communications Center said that the offender came back with a valid Department of Corrections warrant.
At this point, the second officer requested assistance with taking the offender into custody. The first officer told the Communications Center that they were very close to the second officer and could step out to assist.
The first officer activated their emergency lights and parked their squad car behind the second officer. The second officer had the offender in front of the squad car and informed him of his active warrant. The offender stated that he had talked to his parole officer about the warrant and thought it was cleared.
The second officer notified the offender that the warrant still showed as active and that they needed to place him under arrest.
The first officer assisted the second officer with handcuffing the offender and searching him prior to arrest as well as helping to place the offender in the back of the squad car and securing him with the seatbelt. The first officer was then cleared to go.
Generator stolen from Sonnentag Event Center
At approximately 9:12 a.m. on Oct. 12, an officer received information regarding a stolen electric generator investigation. The officer traveled to the Sonnentag Event Center and met the victim. There was a two-day Hmong New Year event along with a night party that was being held at the Sonnentag Event Center when this report was made.
The victim reported that he is the owner of a food trailer. The food trailer was parked at the Sonnentag Event Center’s northwest parking lot, selling hot foods for the Eau Claire Hmong New Year. After closing hours around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 11, the victim reported that an electric generator was left on the ground at the front of the trailer.
When the victim returned around 7:20 a.m. on Oct. 12, he noticed that the generator was nowhere to be found. The victim believed that someone had stolen the generator overnight. The victim reported that the generator was worth around $1,000. The victim believed the generator was covered by his business and asked for a police case number.
The officer provided the victim with their business card along with the police case number for insurance purposes. The officer was then cleared from the scene.
