Suspended driver cited on Water Street
At 4:10 p.m. on Feb. 16, an officer conducting a stationary patrol in the 300 block of Water Street observed a Ford Fusion traveling east with an expired registration tag dated April 2025.
After confirming through a records check that the registration had expired on April 30, 2025, the officer initiated a traffic stop. The lone driver stated she had borrowed the vehicle and was unaware of the expired registration.
She was also unable to provide proof of insurance. A records check revealed her Wisconsin driver’s license was suspended, marking her first offense.
The officer issued a citation for operating with a suspended license and written warnings for non-registration of a vehicle and failure to provide proof of insurance. She was instructed to park the vehicle and discontinue driving, which she did without issue.
Driver blows a stop sign on University Drive
At 3:53 p.m. on Feb. 17, an officer conducting a stop sign patrol near the 600/700 blocks of University Drive observed a vehicle traveling southbound fail to stop at a clearly marked three-way stop. The vehicle proceeded through the intersection at approximately 12 mph.
The officer initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver, who said his Wisconsin driver’s license was left in his dorm room. While the vehicle was insured, the driver did not have proof of insurance on hand. A records check showed the driver was valid to operate a vehicle with no outstanding warrants.
The officer issued a citation for failure to stop at a stop sign and written warnings for not carrying a driver’s license and failing to provide proof of insurance.
iPhone retrieved from the city sewer
At 12:53 p.m. on Feb. 18, an officer responded to an incident in Phillips Lot after a student reported her iPhone had fallen into a city sewer drain.
The student said the phone slipped from her lap as she exited her vehicle and fell through the grate. The device, described as an iPhone 14 with a purple case valued at approximately $1,300, was believed to be submerged in water.
City utility workers were contacted and successfully retrieved the phone from the sewer system. Although it had been underwater, the device appeared to be functioning normally when returned to the owner.
UW-Eau Claire officer assists with city crash
On Feb. 18, a UW-Eau Claire officer assisted the Eau Claire Police Department with traffic control following a crash at Craig Avenue and Clairemont Avenue.
Upon arrival, the officer restricted westbound traffic to the far right lane and activated emergency lights while directing vehicles around the scene. Cones were later placed in the roadway to accommodate a tow truck removing one of the vehicles involved in the crash.
The officer remained on scene until cleared by Eau Claire police.
