Junior Kristy Kutchenriter attended the Blugold Organizational Bash the first semester of her freshman year.
At BOB, she signed up for Habitat for Humanity, an organization that helps build homes for low-income families. She has been a member of the organization ever since and is now a member of the executive board.
Held every semester, BOB gives all student organizations a chance to recruit members.
BOB will be held today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.
“At the beginning of the year we had four sheets full of names of people that stopped by,” Kutchenriter said. “It helped us out a lot.”
Kutchenriter said her organization isn’t too busy lately because there has not been a lot of local building, but it always is looking for more people.
The Habitat for Humanity booth is not planning on doing anything out of the ordinary to attract attention to themselves this semester, Kutchenriter said. But students are able to sign up for a spring break trip to Philadelphia to help a local affiliate build houses.
Some groups, such as Student Radio Initiative, are doing special activities during the event.
Paul Butrymowicz, coordinator for student leadership and organization, said SRI will play music and announce special events throughout the day.
This is the second year in a row that SRI has broadcast during BOB.
Some organizations scheduled to have booths at the event are Alpha Phi Omega, American Marketing Association, Habitat for Humanity, None of the Above (NOTA), SRI, The Spectator and about 70 other student organizations.
“We have about 70 organizations signed up already,” Butrymowicz said, adding the number is the typical representation of organizations at the event.
“BOB gives student organizations an opportunity to hand out information and get the word out about what they do,” Butrymowicz said.
Most organizations will hand out literature and have sign-up lists.
Students are welcome to come and be introduced to many of the on-campus organizations they have the opportunity to participate in, Butrymowicz said.
“We’re trying to make BOB have more of a carnival atmosphere,” Butrymowicz said. This semester the recruitment fair will feature sumo wrestling and free pizza for participants to create a carnival feel.
“Students usually enjoy the atmosphere,” Butrymowicz said.
