Urban Roots skatepark, the only indoor park in Eau Claire is set to open its doors Feb. 5 to the community with a grand opening celebration.

General Manager Tommy Adams, said the opening will include open skating all day for $6, and the premiere of a local skate movie 1.21 Gigawatts put together by the Eau Claire Skaters Association.

Local skater Ben Cole said the Wisconsin climate makes skateboarding difficult year round; however, the addition of the indoor skatepark changes things.

“With the indoor park it opens up the ability to skate even when there is 12 inches of snow on the ground,” Cole said. “Along with this, not everyone feels comfortable at home or fits in at school, but at the skatepark everyone fits in.”

Weekday fees for the park are $8 for a 3-10 p.m. session. For a monthly pass, the cost is $50, and for a year long pass, the fee is $400.
