The UW-Eau Claire women’s golf team placed third overall behind Viterbo University and UW-Oshkosh in this past weekend’s Mad Dawg Invitation in Stevens Point.
With a combined team score of 695, after scoring 351 on day one and 344 on day two, the Blugolds finished 29 shots off of the lead and were able to come home with the second-best finish in the WIAC behind the Titans.
Freshman Allison Chomniak led the Eau Claire team throughout the weekend with an 85 both days, good for a total score of 170, 24 strokes over par putting her in seventh place.
Junior Katy Bolduc finished right behind Chomniak. She shot 89 on day one, but improved six strokes on day two to finish with an 83. That put her at a 172 and good enough for ninth place overall.
As a team, The Blugolds were able to cut six strokes off of their first day score on day two, locking in their third place spot, however, Viterbo’s second day 330 and Oshkosh’s 340 proved to be too much to overtake.
Viterbo’s Danielle Ducklow took the individual title with scores of 79 and 76, 155 overall and a mere nine over par.
Next up for the Blugolds is the WIAC tournament, scheduled for Oct. 9 -11 at the Lake Arrowhead Golf Course in Nekoosa.
