NCAA officials announced Sunday night the UW-Eau Claire mens hockey team, who lost out on an automatic bid after Saturday’s loss to St. Norbert in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association conference championship game, was awarded an at large bid to the NCAA tournament.

The Blugolds will host St. John’s (Minn.) on Wednesday at Hobbs Ice Arena. Eau Claire beat St. John’s by a score of 5-1 on Jan. 4.

A Blugold victory would set up a rematch with St. Norbert in De Pere in the second round.

Eau Claire (20-5-2) is one of three teams in the country who was awarded an at large bid to the tournament.
