Women’s track and field:
The women’s 4×400 meter relay team received WIAC athlete of the week honors. Senior Liz Faller, juniors Laura Broner and Liz Kooistra and freshman Corinna Saager recorded a qualifying time of 3:51:51 at the Drake Relays (Iowa). It was a sixth place finish at the relays and a conference high this season.
Women’s Basketball:
The team handed out awards for the season last weekend. Senior Michelle Burns took home most valuable player honors while freshman Hannah Mesick received rookie of the year. Seniors Amanda Zenner and Kali Houselog received the Blugold Award while sophomore Jodi Lindner was named the most improved player on the team.
Men’s Basketball:
Coach Terry Gibbons announced seven recruits for the 2008-2009 season Wednesday. The group features five guards and two forwards. Five of the recruits are from Wisconsin, with two coming from New Richmond. The remaining players come from Minnesota.
“This is one of the best recruiting classes we have been a part of at UW-Eau Claire,” Gibbons said in a press release. “This recruiting class will help us compete at a championship level that we expect out of our returning players and new recruits.”
Women’s tennis:
The tennis team announced its awards for the 2008 season.
Senior Gina Dahl took home the most valuable player award for singles play.
Senior Kristie Carlson won the most valuable player award for doubles play.
Sophomore Erin Welch won the most improved award for the second year in a row and senior Sarah Riordan took home the hustle Award.
