
Women’s volleyball
The UW-Eau Claire women’s volleyball team swept its third invitational of the season over the weekend. Eau Claire defeated Augsburg (Minn.) in three games 30-26, 30-19 and 30-20 in the first match of the Augustana Invitational on Friday night.
The win improved the Blugolds’ record to 14-1 overall and gave the team its 11th sweep on the year.
Eau Claire took the next match against St. Ambrose (Iowa) despite losing the first match.
On the final day of the invitational, the Blugolds took on the host Augustana College (Ill.) and Loras College (Iowa).
In the first match against Augustana College, Eau Claire won 30-27, 30-27 and 30-26.
Senior Jodi Dunbar had 14 kills to lead the ‘Golds and senior Ashley Danielson was second on the team with eight kills.
The Blugolds are now 17-1 overall and have won 10-straight matches.
Eau Claire begins a stretch of six-straight conference matches starting on Wednesday against UW-Stout.
Men’s tennis
This past weekend the Blugolds competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Region Championships hosted by Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.).
There were also Blugold players competing in the Gustavus Midwest Open.
The Blugolds had four singles players competing at both the ITA championships and the Gustavus Midwest Open, as well as three doubles teams at the ITA and one at the Open.
Junior Brett Gressick took home the championship in the singles bracket.
Gressick won his first four matches in straight sets. In the championship match, he won 6-0, 7-5 to claim the title.
In the ITA doubles championships, the team of junior Erik Brandner and senior Jeff Peterson advanced to the third round. In the first round they narrowly defeated the team from Carthage, and in the second round they upset the eighth seed from Carleton College (Minn.) 8-6, but lost to Gustavus 8-6 in the third round.
Men’s cross country
Eau Claire finished strong at the Blugold Open at the Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax by placing fourth out of 15.
The ‘Golds compiled 139 total points for its best non-dual finish since it took first out of five in the 2003 home meet.
Women’s cross country
The women’s cross country team placed third out of 15 teams at Friday’s Blugold Open.
The team scored 103 points while UW-La Crosse took first with 40 points and St. Thomas (Minn.) took second with a score of 82.
Junior Molly Warner took third overall out of 222 runners when she clocked in at 22 minutes 59 seconds.
Both teams will head to La Crosse on Oct. 14 for the La Crosse Invite.
