
This weekend the UW-Eau Claire cross country teams hosted the Midwest Long and Short Course Challenge and each took first place out of 23 teams.
The men’s team competed in the 5K and the 8K at the White Tail Golf Course in Colfax.
The Blugolds took second in the 5K with senior Matt Goertz leading the Blugolds with a time of 15 minutes, 53.9 seconds.
Freshman Ted Lillie followed Goertz with a time of 16:19.4 for 10th place and sophomore Zach Severson took 13th with a time of 16:21.3.
In the 8K, the Blugolds took fifth with junior Adam Condit finishing with a time of 26:08.8, which was good for 10th. Junior Ben Schmiege took 15th with a time of 26:14.2. Junior Micah Hernandez followed in third for the Blugolds taking 23rd overall.
The men’s team took first in the overall challenge.
The women’s cross country team competed in the 3K and the 6K, taking first overall.
Senior Sarah Kasabian was the top Blugold runner in the 3K taking second overall with a time of 11:04.2. Less than a second behind Kasabian was senior Melissa Wright, who finished third with a time of 11:04.8.
Sophomore Jeanine Twomey was another top Blugold finisher, taking 14th with a time of 11:28.
In the 6K, sophomore Jenny Warmke took first for the Blugolds and ninth overall with a time of 23:19.9. Junior Heather Lipinski came in second for the Blugolds and 24th overall with a time of 23:57.8. Two places behind her came freshman Korah Petrasko finishing at 24:03.1.
