Engler places top five at Wartburg

Blugold men and women both place fifth as a team

The UW-Eau Claire men’s and women’s golf teams were both in action over the weekend and each squad finished fifth in their respective competitions.

The women traveled to Waverly, Iowa for the Wartburg Invite. The 17-team field played two rounds of competition at Centennial Oaks Golf Club.  All-American senior Kate Engler led the way for the Blugolds, tying for fifth-place shooting 152.

Senior Emily Stone finished 14th with 156 strokes, and Eau Claire’s 637 strokes was only 33 shots off the lead as Carleton College (Minn.) won the tournament shooting 604.

The men’s team opened up their season at the Augsburg College Fall Invitational in Ham Lake Minnesota and finished with 602 strokes in two rounds of play. The Blugolds score tied St. Thomas (Minn.) for a top-five finish.

Sophomore Joey Drier lead all Blugolds with 147 strokes, tied for seventh overall, and newcomer Patrick Conroy tied for 12th. The freshman competed in his first collegiate tournament and scored a 149.
