The NBA season is roughly one month from starting. Well, it’s actually about one month from maybe starting due to the lockout.

It’s not looking good. I mean, this week the players and owners are meeting and maybe they can get closer on some issues, but it’s looking rough. It’s never good when millionaires are claiming that they aren’t getting enough money — millionaires on both sides by
the way.

Some may remember the brief NFL lockout, and say ‘Oh, this ain’t no thing. I couldn’t give a care. Life is a beach.’ First off, stop talking like a crazy person.

Second of all, there is money to be made in the NBA, but they don’t print it like the NFL does.

Many players see this, so they are looking at their options.

Quite a few players are already looking elsewhere for basketball, or anything really. Lots have said that they’ll play in Europe. For instance, Kobe Bryant said that it’d “be a dream” to play in Italy. That’s cool. How many dreams has Bryant had, because apparently they all come true. Everything works out for him. That dude has the best dreams.

Some players can’t even wait for Europe. Already, players are stating their Basketball Jones by playing pick up games such as when Carmelo, LeBron and Chris Paul hosted a pick-up game. Also, Kevin Durant played at Rucker Park in the summer.

For those that don’t know, Rucker Park is a famous outdoor court in New York. It was featured in the video game NBA Street. Street.

In non-playing news, Ron Artest changed his name to Metta World Peace, because sure. He’s a very inconspicuous guy, so this makes sense. Just as long as he never raps again, I’m OK.

The aforementioned Anthony and Chris Bosh also starred in an episode of Law and Order: SVU, because that show has been on WAY TOO LONG APPARENTLY. Can I guest star? I won’t demand nearly as much money.

So the players are having a good time, and I’m not saying they shouldn’t, but I feel that none of this is a good thing for the NBA.

As it is, without the lockout, the association wasn’t the most popular. It’s not as unpopular as Congress, but still a lot of people I know weren’t that interested in it — I’m talking about people who follow sports too.

With that being said, viewership has been on the rise lately. There’s been great interest in Kobe vs. Lebron. Everyone was happy to see Dirk get a championship too. Apparently, people are interested when there’s a lot of talent in play. People are so weird!

This lockout will cause great complacency with what little fans they have acquired. We’re an impatient bunch and we’re not going to wait around for what we only sort of liked before.

Now, after the NHL lockout, they rebounded well, but hockey is more of a niche sport than basketball. It helped that it is Canadian crack, too. Hockey was going to survive because of that.

I think it will be hard for the NBA to make an NHL-like rebound, which is a metaphor that works in both sports so point for me.

There will still be an NBA after this, but it will be like Shaq in Kazaam not Shaq on the Lakers … OK, that’s it for the analogies, I promise

So David Stern and company need to work this out and soon. Hopefully they will at least get half of a season out of this. I would still very much enjoy to see the Bucks have the opportunity to barf all over the court.
