They were lead by sophomore Jordan Singer who notched 8 points this weekend including five goals out of the team’s 10. Friday’s game began dishearteningly though, as the Saints scored three first period goals and the Blugolds only netted one.

However, the Blugolds dominated the remainder of the game, scoring four more times and conceding
zero goals.

Singer notched the second hat trick of the season with two minutes left in Friday’s game, giving the Blugolds 5-3 victory. He also had two assists making his point total for the game five.

On Saturday, Freshman Chris Heineman scored his first goal of the year, giving the ‘Golds the lead. Senior Ross Janecyk then scored on a power play just five minutes into the second period, maintaining dominance over the Saints.

The Blugolds lead throughout and won 5-2 to complete the sweep, which elevated their Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) conference rank to 6-6, and 12-7 overall.

In net for both games was junior Scott Pederson who stopped 61 of 66 shots including 36 saves on Saturday.

Junior Tyler Romasco had four assists on the weekend for the Blugolds and four players had at least two points.
The teams were very even in shots with the Blugolds outshooting the Saints 70-66.

Eau Claire also performed better on the power play scoring five out of 11 times whereas St. Scholastica was only 3-15.

With just six games left in the regular season, the team is “very excited,” said head coach Matt Loen. “We’re excited to be where we are right now; so far, so good.”
The team has another tough series coming up this weekend, said Loen. They travel to play UW- Stevens Point Friday night and host St. Norberts at 7 p.m. Saturday.
“They’re number two in the nation right now,” Loen said of St. Norbert, “It’ll be a great game.”

The Blugolds played St. Norbert Jan. 14 and 15 in De Pere, losing both games. Romasco hopes the team will carry over their momentum from this past weekend.
“It’d be really nice to win out,” said Romasco, “We have some tough games to play…to finish in the top two or three spots and have home ice advantage for the playoffs. That’s our goal for the next six games.”

Both Loen and Romasco are pleased with the team’s performance this season.

“I’m actually really happy with how the season’s gone,” said Romasco, “I’m in my junior year and I think this is the best team we’ve had.”
