    Victorious week for Blugolds

On Monday the Blugold softball team played a double header against the UW-Lacrosse Eagles. The first game lasted eight innings with the Eagles coming out on top, 3-4. The second game, which was finished in regulation, was won by the Blugolds 2-0.

In the first game the Blugolds scored first with three runs in the top of the first inning. Senior first baseman Jill Janke, senior third baseman Michelle Butkus and junior utility player Kristi Doucette each had RBI, and Janke, Butkus and Senior second baseman Casey Leisgang each scored a run.

Freshman starting pitcher Jenny Ross left after the fourth inning with only one earned run allowed. Junior Bri Sturm pitched the final inning and a third and was stuck with the loss, dropping her record on the season to 5-4. Sturm allowed five hits and three runs, two of which were earned.

Game two was much better for the Blugolds. Starting pitcher Jenny Ross pitched a complete game shutout and only gave up four hits while striking-out five opponents in her seven innings pitched.

On the offensive end, the Blugolds had hits from seven of their nine players with an at-bat. Doucette was the only Blugold credited with an RBI, driving in Butkus. Ross scored the first run of the game in the second inning when she scored on a fielding error by the Eagles.

The pair of wins Monday afternoon improved the team’s record to 21-7 overall, and 6-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Tuesday the Blugolds had a doubleheader scheduled against the UW-Superior Yellowjackets, but it was postponed due to overnight thunderstorms in Superior the night before. The doubleheader, which was postponed until April 25, is the seventh doubleheader that was either cancelled or postponed so far this month, and eighth overall.

The Blugolds had a doubleheader last night, this time against UW-River Falls. The Blugolds won both games. The first game was a close 6-5 victory for the Blugolds, but the second victory was a blowout 10-3 victory.

This coming weekend the Blugolds have their rescheduled doubleheader at Superior Friday. In addition to that, the team will play a doubleheader against UW-Stevens Point at Gelein Field at 2 p.m. Saturday, and a noon doubleheader against UW-Whitewater at Gelein Field.
