    Wrestlers split weekend meets

    Two conference dual meets took the Blugold wrestlers to UW-Oshkosh, then to UW-Stevens Point on Saturday.

    The Blugolds traveled to Oshkosh for a meet at 10 a.m., then they went to Stevens Point for a meet at 4 p.m.

    The ‘Golds split the pair of conference duals, beating Oshkosh 29-10 and losing to Stevens Point 24-13.

    Seven victories were pulled in by the ‘Golds at Oshkosh. The Blugolds only took three individual firsts at Stevens Point.

    Sophomore Davey Starks pulled in victories in the 125-pound weight class at Oshkosh and Stevens Point meets. He decisioned his Oshkosh opponent 13-3 and won against his Point opponent by a forfeit.

    Freshman Jon Watson took victories at both meets. Wrestling in the 157-pound weight class at Oshkosh, he pinned his opponent in four minutes and .04 seconds. He wrestled in the 149-pound weight class in Point, where he decisioned his opponent 9-5.

    Freshman Jacob Lawrence wrestled in the 141-pound weight class, taking victories in both meets. He decisioned his Oshkosh opponent 5-1 and major-decisioned his Point opponent, 14-4.

    “I thought we did really well at Oshkosh,” Lawrence said. “Everyone wrestled to their complete ability.”

    Some wrestlers were able to win at one meet, but not the next.

    Senior Ben Podoll wrestled the 174-pound weight class. He decisioned his Oshkosh opponent 12-4. He trailed two points behind his opponent from Point, losing 3-1.

    Senior Pete Peterson, who wrestled at heavyweight, had a big victory over his opponent in Oshkosh, winning 5-0.

    Sophomore Adam Kolo wrestled in the 184-pound class in Oshkosh, pinning his opponent in 1:04. Kolo has the fifth best record in his weight class in the Div. III rankings.

    Junior Travis Buchholz decisioned his Oshkosh opponent 8-7 for a close win. He wrestled in the 165-pound weight class.

    Buchholz was unable to compete in the Stevens Point meet as a result of a knee injury suffered at Oshkosh.

    “We did have confidence against Point,” Lawrence said. “Travis’s knee injury really hurt us a lot, I think. He’s valuable to the team.”
