A new musical group composed of University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire music department students performed on Friday night at the Acoustic Café.

Named the Milanesa Trio, they are mostly known for their performance of jazz standards as well as original work. The three members include Angie Coyle (saxophone), Sam Olson (bass) and Cami Mennitte (drums).

With a new record to be released at the end of fall, the Trio hopes to raise funds through a campaign fundraiser on Kickstarter.com.

The group has performed at various events around Eau Claire, such as UW meets EC as well as The Cabin in Davies.

Senior saxophone performance major and Trio member, Angie Coyle, said the event went well at the Acoustic Café on Friday.

Beginning with the song “Out of Nowhere” – a jazz standard – the Trio performed original music for the first half, while the second contained standard tunes.

Coyle said she enjoys when the audience is engaged in the show.

“For me, it’s whatever the audience wants to get out of the performance,” said Coyle.

Along with the Milanesa Trio, Coyle is also a member of another trio titled Prismatic as well as the musical group Left Wing Bourbon.

Freshman instrumental music education major Brandon Polzin was in attendance Friday night. Coming to the event to support the members of the Milanesa Trio as a fellow music major, he enjoyed the musical talent.

“I really enjoyed the sort of back and forth stuff they did between the saxophone and the bass player,” Polzin said. “They did a lot of unison playing which was really cool, and something I’ve never heard before.”
