Saturday’s Cabin performance a no-show

Minnesota Singer-songwriter NatanYael doesn’t make the Cabin booking

The stage at The Cabin was left vacant on Saturday night, when Minnesota-based singer-songwriter NatanYael and her band did not show up for their scheduled appearance.

Cabin Co-Chair Becca Lawrence said that she tried to contact the band several times the night of the scheduled show, but was unsuccessful in doing so. She said that she cannot recall this happening before at The Cabin.

Lawrence said that they had booked NatanYael after the band’s booking agency contacted The Cabin about playing a show at UW-Eau Claire.

NatanYael, also known as Natalie Lassman, is a singer-songwriter originally from Kansas. She attended McNally Smith Music College after graduating from high school. According to her Facebook page, NatanYael is a shortened version of her Hebrew name meaning “to give joy”. Prior to playing in her own band she played with the St. Paul Ska/Punk/Pop band Drunk history.

UW-Eau-Claire student Andrew Simser remembers NatanYael from the time when they were classmates at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, Minn. He even attended a show she performed at in the fall of 2010.

“(Her music) is a mixture of a bar band and bubble gum pop,” Simser said.

He went on to speculate as to why she would have missed this show.

“I don’t know where she gets it,” Simser said. “But at McNally they did not teach us to miss gigs.”

The Cabin concert series continues next weekend with a Friday show from Native/Tongues with Youths, and a Saturday show from The Weathered Heads. All performances start at 8 p.m. and are free to all.
