Police arrested two UW-Eau Claire students and charged them with burglarizing several businesses on the east side of Eau Claire Monday morning.
Police say freshmen Jerad R. Lester, 19, and Trevor F. Miller, 18, were in the process of breaking into Pawn Doctors, 2221 S. Hastings Way, when an alarm on the building sounded, alerting the Eau Claire Police Department. Community Relations Officer Jason Kaveney said the department had an officer in the area at the time the alarm sounded. He said the officer happened to stop a vehicle near the scene of the burglary. Inside were Lester and Miller.
In all, Lester and Miller allegedly burglarized six area businesses, all within close proximity of each other: Pawn Doctors, Chippewa Valley Sporting Goods, 1315 S. Hastings Way, Advanced Transmission, 3028 E. Clairemont Ave., KGS Bootguard, 3028 E. Clairemont Ave., Litchfield Auto, 2908 E. Clairemont Ave., and Simply Stone, 2910 E. Clairemont Ave.
Kaveney said the items were small and said the suspects “didn’t get much.”
Lester is charged with two counts of burglary as party to a crime, one count of possession of narcotic drugs and one count of possession of burglarizing tools. Miller is also charged with two counts of burglary as party to a crime and one count of possession of burglarizing tools. They will have their initial appearance in court on June 11.
