Students looking for an early Halloween celebration can participate in a costume concert at 8 p.m. this Friday in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.
The event will feature a costume contest and three live Goth-style bands.
The show is open to all ages and participants are encouraged to dress up, said Paul Butrymowicz, coordinator of student leadership and organizations.
Approximately three prizes handed out, including one for best costume overall and for one most original costume.
The main draws of the event are the three live bands that that have never played an Eau Claire venue before. Headlining the event is the Milwaukee quartet You’re Pretty, a hard rock band used to playing at rock clubs.
“We’re electric,” lead singer Beth Musoloff said. “It’s hard rock with a female vocalist, so it brings a softer edge.”
Musoloff also said they’ve been compared to Tori Amos joining the Deftones and urged concert-goers to prepare for an “energetic show.”
Opening for You’re Pretty is the Minneapolis band Astral Grey and the Indianapolis based band Blaq Lily, whose sound has been compared to the Cranberries.
Students seem to be excited to have a trio of rock bands playing on campus.
“It’s just awesome to have some hard rock bands playing right on campus,” freshman Justin Frey said. “Eau Claire really doesn’t have any clubs where I can rock out.”
Frey and other students can “rock out” this Friday when the concert doors open. The event is expected to last until about midnight.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Service Center or at the door. The cost is $7 for the general public and $5 for students.
