Like many people, I have my own food hyperfixations. Currently, I am obsessed with milk chocolate-covered pretzels.
I have distinct childhood memories during fall of someone always bringing chocolate-covered pretzel sticks for the elementary school Halloween party. I loved the taste and the cute designs that they sported.
I fondly remember the designs of the pretzels looking like mummies with white chocolate drizzled over them — giving them the perfect toilet-paper-wrapped look — and the plain green dipped ones, often with faces on them.
But in recent weeks, I rediscovered my love for the snack when I had a bag of milk chocolate-covered pretzels. I quickly ate the two small bags that I bought within a week and promptly added them to my grocery list to get them again.
However, I made a mistake when I went home for the weekend and brought them with me. In my family, if you have chocolate, you need to hide it from my mother. That woman can sniff it out like a hound.
You cannot leave anything chocolate out for longer than a day without her snatching it up and saying, “It was just sitting there, I didn’t think you wanted it,” when asked about it.
When I made the mistake of bringing the pretzels home, it meant sharing them with my mom, who loved them as well, and only left me two in the bag to find the next day.
There is something so delicious about how when you first put the pretzel in your mouth, it’s sweet from the chocolate, but as you chew it up, the saltiness of the pretzel fills your mouth, creating the perfect sweet and salty combination.
It’s honestly alarming how many I can eat without realizing. I’ve gotten to the point where I need to ration them to make sure I do not eat them all in one sitting.
While I am currently throwing back the chocolate-covered twists, I foresee myself getting the chocolate-covered sticks variant just for the touch of spooky season nostalgia.
Although pretzels on their own seem pretty basic in the snack realm — while absolutely delicious — the addition of chocolate makes them shoot up the list of “best snacks” for me. If they provided any nutritional value, I could eat them all day, every day.
In the future, I want to branch out and try some more specialty chocolate-covered pretzels, as there are a multitude of different offerings.
Target’s brand Favorite Day has some specialty flavors like milk chocolate and toffee, milk chocolate, caramel and pretzel and dark chocolate, caramel and pretzel with sea salt.
Eating chocolate-covered pretzels paired with The Sims 4 is a dangerous combination. The two are perfect for a night in while sitting on my bed, tucked away with a blanket.
If you see me with little chocolate spots on my shirt or pants, mind your business and know that I just had one of the best snacks of all time.
