In lieu of her first and second Grammy wins, Sabrina Carpenter took to Instagram to share her release of a deluxe edition of her album, “Short n’ Sweet.” In the comments of the post, she announced the release date as Feb. 14.
Last semester, I wrote another Spec Sing Along for the regular album and shared my love for it, dubbing it a proper “no skip” album. I think I can confidently predict the same for the deluxe edition.
Other than a beautiful cover, five additional tracks are on the deluxe.
The first song on the deluxe edition is titled “15 Minutes.” I am excited to see what this one is about. My mind is swirling with a million different possibilities, some appropriate, others not. Knowing other songs on the album, I’m predicting the more inappropriate route.
The second song listed on the track list is a new edition of “Please Please Please” featuring Dolly Parton, the music goddess herself. I am so excited to hear this version, given my love for Dolly. I cannot wait to see what she brings to the song.
While I think any track featuring Dolly Parton may be hard to follow, I think the track “Couldn’t Make It Any Harder” will have no troubles. Given this title, it could be a song that will make me cry with no issues, or it could be another “Bed Chem” situation. Either way, I’m excited.
Next is the song titled “Busy Woman.” Unlike the other tracks on the deluxe album, this song has already been leaked, and Carpenter even performed it on the eighth stop in Philadelphia for her Short n’ Sweet Tour.
After this track, there is a scribbled-out mark, which to many fans once said: “busy.” This is not the only crossed-out phrase; within the regular track list, the song “Bed Chem” was scribbled over and rewritten, and the word “pickin’s” in “Slim Pickins” as well.
I am curious to see if this has any meaning in the album, as it seems like an intentional artistic choice.
Finally, the last song listed for the deluxe tracks is “Bad Reviews.” I am quite excited for this song, given that Carpenter is not one to shy away from defending herself from the haters.
One example that comes to mind is the music video for her song “Feather,” which was shot in a church. Many members of the Catholic Church thought it was “unholy” and were upset. Sabrina’s response? “Jesus was a carpenter.”
I think this song has great potential to be incredible.
Overall, I think this edition of the album is going to be amazing and expand upon the already no-skip album. Of the six songs, I think I am most excited for “Please Please Please” featuring Dolly Parton, “Busy Woman” and “Couldn’t Make It Any Harder.”
I have the most confidence in Carpenter, and I think she still has so much to show the world. I cannot wait to see what she does next.
