The men’s and women’s cross country teams stayed close to home this past weekend competing in the City Wells 5K at the Eau Claire municipal wells field.

Sophomore Rebecca Whipple won the women’s 5K, crossing the line in 19:20. Whipple held the lead for the majority of the race as well.

Other Blugold women to break the 20-minute barrier were freshmen Katie George and Emily Jaeger, along with junior Katie Wood. The three toured the 5K course in 19:31,19:43 and 19:45, respectively.

On the men’s side, sophomore Riley Huffman came out on top, posting a personal record of 15:43. Junior Matt Cyra ran the 5K in 15:46, coming in second.

Three other Blugolds came in under 16 minutes, and all a second apart. Freshman Tyler Kobilarcsik crossed the line in 15:57, followed by sophomore Hank Woloszyn in 15:58 and freshman Patrick Treacy in 15:59.

The Blugolds rested the top 12 women and top 11 men for this meet in preparation for the WIAC conference, hosted by UW-Oshkosh on Saturday. The men will toe the line at noon at Lake Breeze Golf Course while the women run at 1:00 pm.
