A 1-5 record hardly resembles the type of the play the UW-Eau Claire women’s basketball team has had in the early part of the 2013-2014 season.

All but two of the losses have been decided by eight points are less, including two of them in a 1-3 stretch right before and right after Thanksgiving.

The Blugolds started it off strong by knocking off St. Scholastica (Minn.) in Zorn Arena on Nov. 21.

After trailing early on, the Blugolds took a small lead and held on to it through the end of the game.

Eau Claire’s dynamic duo of Courtney Lewis and Teenie Lichtfuss took over the game in the second half. Lewis poured in 20 points throughout the night and grabbed nine boards.

Lichtfuss had a pair of fast-break ‘and-one’ plays to end with 16 points and four steals to lead the Blugolds to a 74-69 win.

Eau Claire dropped a heartbreaker two nights later on the road at Simpson College (Iowa). The Blugolds were up 46-33 headed into halftime locker room, but the Storm thundered back to outscore Eau Claire 50-29 in the second half to grab an 83-75 victory.

Once again, it was Lichtfuss who shined for the Blugolds. She had a career-high 21 points, dished out five assists and nabbed six steals in the loss.

Sophomore Madison Johnson chipped in 13 points for Eau Claire, and Carly Chell had 11.

After falling on the road 69-50 to St. Norbert’s Nov. 26, the Blugolds traveled on the road Saturday back to the corn state to face Wartburg College (Iowa).

The Blugolds went down by 11 early but then closed the first-half on a 23-10 run to take a two point lead into halftime.

But a trio of Knights’ free throws under a minute to go sunk the Blugolds into a third-straight loss.

Once again, it was Lichtfuss who knocked in the game-high with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Lewis also recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Kristin Sahr also scored 16 points off the bench for Eau Claire.

Lichtfuss currently sits at fourth in the WIAC in scoring at 16.2 points per game and she is third in the conference in assists, dishing out 3.67 dimes a night. She also leads the conference in minutes played.
