Women’s soccer shutout twice

In the 51th minute of the UW-Eau Claire women’s soccer match Saturday night against UW-Oshkosh, Robyn Elliot of the host Titans scored the first and only goal to determine a loss for the Blugolds in their on the road conference game on Oct. 12.

Eau Claire (4-5-3-1, 1-3-1) now sits seventh in the conference with three conference matches left in the season.

“We back ourselves into a hole in the conference so we are kind of in that must win situation,” head coach Sean Yengo said.

Oshkosh held the Blugolds down to eight shots versus the Titans’ 19. Yengo said Oshkosh does have a strong defense but the Blugold had plenty of corner kick opportunities that the women weren’t able to capitalize on.

“It’s more just our mental mistakes instead of our physical mistakes,” Yengo said. “The girls are working really hard. They are working hard for each other. The physical part is there. It’s just our mental mistakes that is costing us from winning soccer games.”

This was the fourth time this season the Blugold were scoreless in a game.

On Wednesday night the Blugolds traveled to Luther (Iowa) for their fifth-straight road contest, falling 1-0.
