Engler wins Blazer Invite

Led by two Blugolds in the top three, the UW-Eau Claire women’s golf team finished in third place out of six teams at the two-day Blazer Invitational, hosted by the College Saint Benedict (Minn.) at Blackberry Ridge Golf Course in Sartell, Minn.

Leading the field of 49 golfers was junior Kate Engler, who finished with 150 strokes, six better than the second-place finisher. It was her first win this season and the third time she finished in the top five.

Junior Emily Stone also had a good weekend. After being tied for second place after day one, she completed the two rounds with 158 strokes to finish in third place.

As a team, the Blugolds took third place with 665 strokes while Saint Benedict won with 648. St. Catherine was second with 662 strokes.

The Blugolds will have next weekend off before competing at the WIAC Championship, Oct. 4-6. The tournament will be contested at the Lake Arrowhead Golf Course in Nekoosa, Wis. and will get underway at noon on Oct. 4.
