Soccer wins non-conference matchup

Team duplicates score from previous day to earn victory

The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team came away with a 5-2 victory for the second consecutive day. The win came in a non-conference match against Macalester College (Minn.) just a day after defeating UW-River Falls by the same score. Freshman Shyla Gilbertson got the scoring started in the 13th minute on a goal that was assisted by sophomore Lisa Marco.

Blugolds take Hope College 52-45 before bye week

The UW-Eau Claire football team didn't settle for a "baseball score" Saturday. The Blugolds traded barbs all day with Michigan's Hope College and forced overtime for a 52-45 Eau Claire victory. "I thought our offense did a really god job of getting first downs and getting it into the end zone," head coach Todd Glaser said.

Blugolds suffer only second loss of season in weekend match

The 9-1 UW-Eau Claire volleyball team, ranked No. 13 overall, hosted the then 3-5 UW-Platteville Pioneers on Friday in the conference opener, and found themselves on the wrong end of an upset. In a close first game, the Blugolds lost 25-23, seemingly giving the Pioneers momentum for the remaining games.

The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team held off a late rally from UW-River Falls to come away with a 5-2 win on Saturday. Coming out fast, the Blugolds were able to find the net twice in the first ten minutes. "This team, there is something about them. We start out really strong, it's just a matter of sustaining that," head coach Sean Yengo said.

The UW-Eau Claire football team defeated Bethel University (Tenn.) 21-7 Saturday night at Carson Park to win its season opener. Eau Claire came out hot early, scoring a touchdown inside the first four minutes and scoring again less than five minutes later to take an early 14-0 lead.

Going streaking

Frank: After a subpar performance two weeks ago, I wasn't entirely sure how last week would go for me. I was able to do much better, predicting four of five correctly, including all four of the UW-Eau Claire results. For the national contest I picked the Minnesota Twins, who I don't even like, for the first time in my life, and it prevented me from having a perfect prediction week.

For the second straight game, regulation time wasn't enough to find a result for UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team. Instead, the team was forced to play two 10-minute extra periods that ended up in a stalemate. After the long struggle, the Blugolds came away with a 0-0 tie Saturday against St. Benedict

The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team came away with an 8-1 win against St. Norbert College at the season opener Saturday at Olson Courts outside McPhee Center.

Golf teams place strong

Women finish second, men take third over weekend

Men The men's golf season began on September 12 at Augsburg College's Fall Invite, where the Blugolds placed third out of 14 teams. The team finished the two-day event with a stroke total of 602, according to the Blugold Athletics Web page. The top two finishers at the event were UW-Stout and Luther College with 598 and 601 strokes, respectively.
