Story posted: 10:20 p.m. 9-15-09 Plans to construct a seven-story apartment building near the entrance to Carson Park didn't pass the Eau Claire Planning Commission's muster Monday night. The commission voted to reject recommending that land near the park's entrance off of Menomonie Street be rezoned to allow for construction of a 104-bedroom apartment structure.

Seventh annual Labors of Love program held

Many freshmen, sophomores turn out to help community

Despite having the day off, students headed out to help the community Monday with UW-Eau Claire's seventh annual Labors of Love program. Volunteers were dispatched to Putnam Park, Eau Claire County Humane Association, State Theatre, Bolton Refuge House and walking paths around Eau Claire to help with various improvement projects.

Reaccreditation team to visit

The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools will visit UW-Eau Claire from Sept. 14-16 for the reaccreditation site visit which serves as the means of advancing the quality of higher education institutions, according to the executive summary.

Dining launches three new meal plans

Committee to hold weekly meetings; promote cafeteria use

In an effort to encourage more students to eat in the cafeterias, UW-Eau Claire has launched two new meal plans and extended hours this semester, said Charles Farrell, director of University Centers. The two new meal plan options - All Access and Blugold Preferred - have replaced the specific set-meals-per-week plans of previous years.

Senate to fill seat openings

Six positions need applicants for fall semester

Student Senate will employ a vacancy committee to fill six vacant positions including a directorship and executive officer, said Jodi Thesing-Ritter, associate dean of students. The positions include the Academic Affairs Director, Parliamentarian, one on-campus and three off-campus senators.

Segregated fees for green projects postponed

Modifications to environmental responsibility account lowers payments from $10 to $1 per semester

Students will pay less in segregated fees than previously thought toward an environmental responsibility account this year, university officials said. A money pool created by Student Senate and approved by the student body last year to fund environmentally friendly projects originally would have cost students $10 in segregated fees per semester, said David Gessner, assistant vice chancellor for budget and finance.

Nanotechnology company partners with UWEC

Partnership with Resonant Microsystems Inc. brings new opportunities to multiple science majors

A partnership announced in June will allow a new nanotechnology company in the area to use UW-Eau Claire facilities,including the Materials Science Center, for research and provide internships to science majors. Resonant Microsystems Inc., 2322 Alpine Road, which specializes in micro electrical mechanical systems, will do quality control research for its Eau Claire products, while production will occur at Chippewa Valley Technical College.
