Packed Zorn Arena energizes game play as Eau Claire

Senior Heather Witt scored 28 points and collected four steals Saturday evening to help lead the UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team to a 71-50 rout against UW-Whitewater. The win shot the Blugolds past the Warhawks to second place in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, just one spot behind league leader UW-Stevens Point.

The UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout rivalry was in full force Friday night at Hobbs Ice Arena. Fans from both teams packed the arena for Eau Claire's final regular season home game of the season. The two teams combined for 21 total penalties in a physical game that showed the rivalry at its best.

Even a hot touch from outside couldn't net the Blugolds a win Saturday against a team that was sitting near the top of the Div. III national rankings. The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team shot 50 percent from behind the 3-point arc and earned 30 of its 60 points from the perimeter.

Poor floor ruins Lady 'Golds at Stout

Sometimes, all it takes is one event to cause things to go south. For the UW-Eau Claire gymnastics team, the floor event caused a major problem at its meet Friday night at UW-Stout, head coach Jean DeLisle said. "We gave the meet away because of floor," she said.

The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team had a shot at history with last Friday's game against UW-Stevens Point. However, that opportunity resulted in a 3-1 loss to the 8th-ranked Pointers. Sophomore Kristin Faber scored her team-leading 12th goal in the final seconds of the game, though the Blugolds finished 1-1-1 against Stevens Point this season.
