Local band undergoes member changes, ready to play this weekend

"United in your focus, there still comes a day, where you must test out the waters, on your own, the waves are swaying…" For Eau Claire band, "Meridene," these are not just the opening lyrics to their newest album, You're Not Pretty You're Worse, they are a metaphor for where the band remains today.

A cappella group releases sixth album, plays first concert of semester

From Justin Timberlake to Marvin Gaye to Michael Jackson, UW-Eau Claire a cappella group "Fifth Element" has sung all genres of music for audiences for more than 10 years. Six Eau Claire students make up the all-male group. Seniors Anthony Meehl, Nels Urtel, Joe Holtan, and juniors Alex Collie and Pete Elkin, and new member, freshman Tim Mattson round out the group.

"Unbearable" more than bearable

This is the first line delivered by two-time Academy Award Winner for Best Actor Daniel Day-Lewis in "The Unbearable Lightness of Being," and one that really sums up his characters. It is hard to recall when one line so early on in a film established from the get-go who a character is.

Imagine being on a police ride-along when suddenly a gunshot goes off. What would you do, save one of the two friends next to you, let's call them Ross and Chandler, or rescue the best sandwich in the world? Tough call, isn't it? Well, if you were Joey Tribbiani, it wouldn't be, because the best sandwich in the world definitely wins.
