With just eight days left before Election Day, U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) and U.S. Rep. Ron Kind (D-La Crosse) visited UW-Eau Claire Monday as part of a state-wide campus tour calling on students to vote fellow Democrat, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, for president.

City council looks into street light tax

With the nation in an economic crisis, the city of Eau Claire is having some problems of its own.  Because of budget issues, Eau Claire City Councilman Larry Balow proposed a new tax at the Oct. 20 meeting that would make all property owners pay a separate street light tax.

Shuttle service offers early voting

The College Democrats and the Barack Obama and Jeff Smith campaigns are sponsoring a shuttle service between campus and City Hall to help students vote early in this year's election. The shuttles, or volunteer cars, run from noon to 4 p.m. on weekdays and pick up students between Phillips and Schneider Halls.

Band plans for Zorn Arena performance

Adding to an already busy year, including a trip to Lambeau Field, the Blugold Marching Band will perform their second annual stage show at 4 p.m. Sunday in Zorn Arena. The marching band, directed by associate professor of music Randy Dickerson, is bigger than ever, with a membership of 232 students this year.

University Senate creates major

Professors are confident Board of Regents will approve

University Senate approved implementing a new materials science comprehensive major and a Middle East Studies minor Tuesday at the governing body's bi-weekly meeting. Senate also approved a readjustment of the Geography department and approved renaming several emphases within that department.
