Rapper 'Afroman' makes a stop at the Stones Throw as he starts a Midwest tour

A fairly well-known musician is scheduled to play in Eau Claire this weekend. Tomorrow night, "Afroman" and several other hip-hop acts will hit the stage at 9 p.m. at The Stones Throw, 304 Eau Claire St., with the doors opening at 8 p.m. "Afroman" made his music famous in 2001 when the hit song "Because I Got High" became the most popular song of that summer.

UW-Eau Claire has been recognized as having a strong music program for its undergrads. One of the reasons for its recognition is because the Department of Music and Theatre Arts offers over one hundred concerts and recitals each year and is recognized for its consistently fine performances.

Prior to 1996, it was as if Hollywood had a rule that if a movie involved drug use it had to be depicted in one of two ways. Films like "Easy Rider" and "Man with the Golden Arm" depicted their drug use seriously while other films like the "Cheech and Chong" films tried to make the topic humorous and light-hearted.

The songs contained on "The Gentle Guest's" debut full-length, "We Are Bound To Save Some Souls Tonight," exist somewhere between a corner saloon and a cathedral. At times, Eau Claire's "The Gentle Guest" is an 11-man army of players, and other times it is Eric Rykal unaccompanied.
