Across UW campuses, blue postcards were handed out urging students to support the Wisconsin Higher Education Grant Indexing Bill. Friday, UW-Eau Claire's United Council hosted a postcarding event in Davies to inform students of the WHEG Indexing Bill and its affects on students.

The last time Student Senate held a referendum for a constitutional amendment, less than 100 students showed up at the polls, said Senate President Ray French said.Now, with a special referendum vote right around the corner, Senate is trying to make voting easier for the student body by holding an electronic vote for the first time at UW-Eau Claire.

When members of the UW-Eau Claire hockey teams need to shower after their games in Hobbs Ice Arena, they must trek downstairs from their second-floor locker rooms. In response to this, and many other problems such as outdated ice care, Hobbs will see much-needed improvements within the next two years.

New funds to support Faculty Opportunity Funds, make campus all Steinway

After announcing the UW-Eau Claire Foundation gathered $54 million during its seven-year Fulfilling the Promise of Excellence campaign, the university is turning its attention to new projects the Foundation will help fund, Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich said. The Foundation hopes to raise money for UW-Eau Claire to convert to an all Steinway piano campus as well as develop Faculty Opportunity Funds for every department, he said.

History professor to present dialogue, opportunities to see a more diverse world

It was first known as the "Negro History Week," but after 82 years this annual recognition has transformed into "Black History Month." According to the Chicago Public Library Web site, Dr. Carter G. Woodson is considered to be the Father of Black History Month. His parents were slaves, and as a child Woodson worked in a coal mine.

After over a decade of research, UW-Eau Claire geology professor Kent Syverson had his findings finally published in the Wisconsin Survey Bulletin 103 "Pleistocene Geology of Chippewa County, Wisconsin."
