With UW-Eau Claire's Organized Activities Budget waiting for approval from Student Senate next semester, one question still remains: What will Student Senate's salary be next session? Senate, which is in charge of distributing student segregated fees to campus organizations, receives its stipend through those same fees.

New sick leave policy reviewed

Opponents say policy will result in benefit cuts, fewer classes being taught

Members of the UW System Board of Regents reviewed a new sick leave policy Friday - a policy that has some higher educators worried. The policy, which the Board's Business, Finance and Audit Committee approved Thursday, would require faculty and academic staff to take sick leave and accurately report it, even if they arranged for a colleague to cover their classes or office hours, according to a System press release.

When it came to saving a life as a nurse in Iraq, it didn't matter to Lt. Col. Deanna Germain who the patient was - American, Iraqi, friendly or hostile. "We didn't pick and choose," she said. Germain, who received her masters degree at UW-Eau Claire, shared her experiences and read from the book she co-authored, "Reaching Past the Wire: A Nurse at Abu Ghraib" before dozens of people Monday at Fanny Hill, 3919 Crescent Ave.

After at least 12 burglaries in the Water Street area that occurred over last year's Winterim, according to a Jan. 25 issue of The Spectator, community relations officer Jason Kaveney said the police are well aware of what could happen when students go home over this year's winter break.

Officials urge caution after series of dorm thefts

Housing and Residence Life officials are encouraging students to keep track of their personal belongings after a series of thefts from residence halls during the last four weeks. Flyers have appeared throughout the residence hall laundry rooms warning students not to leave items unattended.

Senate supports proposed learning goals

During its final meeting of the semester, Student Senate unanimously passed a resolution Monday night in support of the university's proposed learning goals.

Midnight cowboy Sunday, Oct. 28 At 1:39 a.m. an officer received a phone call from an RA in Murray Hall who said there was a very drunk man who had urinated on the floor in the lobby. The RA said the man ran away, but he was still somewhere in the building.
