Partisan politics stall state budget

Delays create uncertainty over tuition levels, financial aid

Freshman Eric Nohelty said he doesn't know very much about the issue but thinks the process has been taking too long.

The votes came in from all over the country last week for the women people wanted to see in the third annual Eau Claire swimsuit calendar. Forty-two women had their photos on a Facebook event page in hopes of drawing votes and being chosen as one of the 17 models for this year's calendar, titled "College QTs of EC.

Area code could split because of abundance of phone numbers

As the state Legislature finds itself entangled with budget deadlines and other pieces of legislation, senior Mark Olson believes the issue surrounding the 715 area code is one that should be decided quickly. "It's pretty straight forward … obviously, changing the area code is going to inconvenience somebody," Olson said.

Money scam hits EC area

Police warn community against cashing fraudulent money orders

The Eau Claire Police Department is warning the community about a recent money order scam in the Eau Claire area. According to a Sept. 14 news release, people have been receiving money orders between $600 and $1,000 from an unknown person through UPS. A letter accompanying the order asks recipients to deposit the money order and return some of the money back to the sender.

Pollitz wants more interaction with students after previous job

Like many others at UW-Eau Claire, John Pollitz has a Facebook account. Unlike most Facebookers though, he's not in his 20s. He is a faculty member who joined Facebook so he could be where the students are, he said. Pollitz, the new director of libraries at UW-Eau Claire, said he has about 30 Facebook friends, but doesn't look for new friends.

UW-Eau Claire junior Eric Becker has China on his mind. The business management major and international business minor said his internship to China is a dream come true for him. While he said he doesn't know exactly what he will be doing during his internship, Becker said he is looking forward to the experience.
