'Progressive' editor questions Bush policies

Rothschild discusses public's rights, liberties since terrorist attacks

The editor of "The Progressive" magazine compared the Bush presidency to various eras of political repression in American history Wednesday night, speaking to an audience in Schofield Auditorium. In his talk "Losing Our Liberties: Life in the Bush Era," Matthew Rothschild outlined what he said were blatant violations of Americans' civil rights and liberties in the name of national security.

Juniors Megan O'Connell and Jackie Mueller will be traveling to Jeonju, South Korea to represent the United States at the World Curling Championships.

Salary plan proposes 3 percent raise for academic staff

The University Senate met Tuesday to discuss the UW-Eau Claire faculty and academic staff comprehensive salary plan for 2006-2007, and voted to send the measure to Interim Chancellor Vicki Lord Larson to sign into effect. Acting Chair of University Senate, Andrea Gapko, said the Senate forwarded it to the Interim Chancellor without any changes to the legislation.

Applicant increase may change RA selection proces

A possible increase in the number of students applying for RA positions could result in a foreseeable change to the application process, UW-Eau Claire housing officials said. Associate Director of Housing & Residence Life Deb Newman said that, though no changes have been made, housing officials are looking at the possibility of altering the RA application process depending on the number of applicants.

Student leaders consider a resolution to re-define the'Blugold' symbol

A mythological bird? The letters of bulldog rearranged? The school spirit inside each UW-Eau Claire student? Student Senate considered a resolution Monday that would establish a committee to answer one of the most frequently asked questions on campus, "What is a Blugold?" The resolution, authored by President Aaron Olson and submitted by him and Vice President Emily Ascher, included results of a survey Olson conducted during the fall semester of 2003.

Area businesses seek student interns

Number of organizations recruiting at Eau Claire has doubled since 2003

Jeanne Skoug, director of Career Services, said over the last four years, the number of employers in the Chippewa Valley who post internships has increased by 28 percent and the number of regional employers who post local jobs has increased by 78 percent. Events scheduled by Career Services throughout the school year are meant to raise awareness of the options available to students, as well as provide employers with an opportunity to find employees or interns, Skoug said.
