Regents to vote Friday on raising chancellor pay

Non-doctoral salaries could increase to $215,249

The UW Board of Regents will likely vote Friday on whether or not to raise the salary ranges for executives at each of the System's 13 non-doctoral campuses, as well as UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee. After gathering data from peer institutions, as required by Board policy when deciding System salary changes, a System report revealed UW chancellor salaries are, on average, between 8 and 17 percent lower than those of comparable universities.

One month ago, the fate of Eastern Washington University's interim president was up in the air, but now the UW System president's choice finalist in UW-Eau Claire's chancellor search, Brian Levin-Stankevich, is one step away from knowing just that. The Board of Regents is expected to announce its decision Friday on who will be replacing former Eau Claire chancellor Donald Mash, who resigned his position in February 2005 after accepting the position of senior executive vice president for the UW System.

In a 23-1 vote, Student Senate decided Monday to lend its support to the Davies Center Development Project, a plan to renovate the building through a gradual increase in student fees. In a discussion that lasted more than an hour, several senators voiced concern that the data showing strong student support for the project came from what some called "an unreliable source.

Each year, more students are finding it harder to fit all of their classes into their busy schedules. However, online classes are making enrollment a little easier for some students at UW-Eau Claire. "In the spring semester of my sophomore year, I was taking 17 credits and it was a very busy time for me," senior Andrea Boh said.
