The Student Senate, the United Hall Council and the University Centers and Programs Advisory Committee ultimately will decide whether to use student segregated fees to renovate, expand or build a new Davies, but Vice President De Anna Breault stressed that no one will proceed with any plans against students' wishes. Satz to retire after relapseCommittee will name next provost after it selects next chancellorByProvost and Vice Chancellor Ron Satz will retire from his duties Monday after undergoing further treatment at Luther Midelfort Clinic for the resurgence of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Satz, who served the university for 22 years, said he will be "continuing treatments that will be ongoing for some time," which have forced him to leave his duties to Interim Provost Steve Tallant. Madison to house only U.S. stem cell bankLarson says choice will help Wisconsin economy, researchByIn what Interim Chancellor Vicki Lord Larson called a "logical choice" for the federal government, the WiCell Research Institute in Madison was chosen Oct. 3 as the site for the first and only national stem cell research bank. The National Institutes of Health awarded WiCell a four-year, $16 million grant that allows UW-Madison to continue categorizing stem cells and distributing the cell lines to researchers around the world.
