Annual powwow offers insight into American Indian culture

Walking through the open doors of a transformed Zorn Arena Saturday morning, people entered a celebration of American Indian culture. Vendors selling jewelry, clothing, music and crafts flanked the walls of the arena. In one corner, a line formed in front of a stand featuring fry bread tacos; in the center of the room, singers congregated around several tribal drums representing the Ho Chunk, Menominee, Ojibwe and other nations.

Students targeted in telephone scams

The call on March 28 started out normal enough. A woman with a Caribbean accent told freshman Amanda Hardy she was from an international student organization. She asked Hardy to confirm her home and school addresses and telephone numbers. "She claimed to be from a school-kind-of-office and already knew my status as a student and that I went to school here," she said.

Annual Relay for Life attracts more than 30 teams

At a place usually filled with the sounds of bouncing basketballs or tennis balls, both tears and laughter could be heard at McPhee Friday night for the third annual Relay For Life. Hosted by UW-Eau Claire's Colleges Against Cancer group, Relay for Life is an event to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

City commemorates worldly holiday

Students, faculty among those who celebrate Earth Day

A wide range of UW-Eau Claire students and faculty, in addition to local businesses and community groups, helped cap off the 35th annual Earth Week with a celebration at Owen Park Saturday. Students and faculty from the biology, geography, nursing and communication and journalism departments, as well as the Center for Service-Learning, participated in the event, which also featured live music, local food and educational activities.

Summer nights in downtown Eau Claire will become a little more lively if two city-sponsored events gain popularity. "For many years, Thursday night was the night to be downtown," said Marsha Tanula, communications and promotions coordinator for the city of Eau Claire.

Event to highlight diversity

PDE will perform three programs to provide education on select issues

Tuesday will mark UW-Eau Claire's second annual Diversity Night. The Peer Diversity Educators will be putting on programs in Davies Theatre from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Programs to be presented during the event are Privilege Walk, First Impressions and International Relations.
